Health & Human Services Grants

 

 

 

  1. Alzheimer’s Disease & Relates Disorders Assoc., Southern WV Chapter- Funding will assist with the printing of the “Caregiver Handbook”  for family members who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia - $1,700.00

 

  1. Cabell Wayne Association Of the Blind, Inc. – Support for outreach activities in Lincoln and Putnam Counties for the early detection and treatment of vision impairments - $10,000.00

 

  1. Charleston Area Medical Center Health Education & Research Institute, Inc. –  Funding  will assist the West Virginia Nursing Leadership Institute Team Leadership Development Program’s ability to foster new nursing leaders in West Virginia -  $10,000.00

 

  1. Charleston Catholic High School – Support for the student’s volunteer Housing Outreach Project Express Program (HOPE). This program will assist with improving the quality of  housing for low income families in Clay County - $7,100.00 

 

  1. Children’s Therapy Clinic – This grant will help provide personnel that will offer free comprehensive therapeutic services (physical, speech, and occupational therapies and autism services) to low-income or uninsured children with special needs - $18,600.00

 

  1. Clay County Commission – Funding will assist with maintaining the Clay Diabetes Support Group for Clay County residents- $1,000.00

 

  1. Community Access, Inc.  –  This grant will help the Transitions to Employment program for residents of Samaritan Inn and continue services to the veterans in the Kanawha Valley - $10,000.00

 

  1. Community Development Outreach Ministries – Support for the Avesta Drive Community Center’s after school programming, summer day camp, homework help, and other programs - $7,500.00

 

  1. Covenant House - Support to address the problem of the chronic homelessness in Charleston  by offering an outreach program that will assist the homeless in receiving  their SSI/SSDI benefits- $14,000.00

 

  1. Family Counseling Connection – Funding will help provide clothing and toiletries to victims of sexual assault after they are seen in the  local emergency rooms - $3,000.00

  

  1. Gabriel Project of West Virginia– Support for this project will help provide services for low-income pregnant women and families with infants and young children - $7,000.00

 

  1. Institute Volunteer Fire Department- This grant will assist with the purchase of a Thermal Imaging Camera - $4,000.00

 

  1. Kanawha County Dental Health Council –Funding will provide for new dental equipment and a part-time dental staff to provide dental care for low-income children in Kanawha County Schools - $25,102.00

 

  1. Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home – This funding will provide assistance with utilities, food, and supportive services for the transitional living environment for recovering male alcoholics and substance abusers. - $15,000.00

 

  1.  March of Dimes Foundation – This grant will assist with the staffing of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family Support Project. This project offers direct services to families whose newborn babies require hospitalization in NICU - $15,000.00

 

  1. New River Health Association – Support for this project will help provide medical services for a school based health center in the new consolidated elementary school in Oak Hill, Fayette County, West Virginia - $21,385.00

 

  1. Prestera Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. – Funding will assist with a clinical outpatient program for adults who are dependent on an opiate and are willing to accept outpatient chemical dependency treatment service - $11,162.00

 

  1. Rea of Hope, Inc.  -   This grant will help provide evening/weekend staff and assistance with utility expenses for the non-profit faith-based organization that provides a recovery home for adult women who are recovering from alcohol and/or drug addiction.  - $15,000.00

 

  1. Religious Coalition for Community Renewal (RCCR) – Funding will provide for a new stove and food for the Samaritan Inn. The Inn provides transitional residential living with supportive services for up to 12 homeless adult men at a time- $17,500.00

 

  1. Roark Sullivan Lifeway Center (RSLC) – Funding will provide health promotion/maintenance education programs for homeless men/women who are residents of the RSLC programs and to continue the expansion of outreach services via health screenings/referrals to healthcare providers. - $20,648.00

 

  1. Southern Appalachian Labor School Foundation, Inc. – This grant will assist rural low income families in the Upper Kanawha Valley and Fayette County by helping them obtain, rehabilitate and maintain their homes -  $13,000.00

 

  1. TEAM for West Virginia Children –  Funding will assist with the recruitment, training  and support of  community volunteers (CASA's) to be a "voice" for abused children in Boone, Lincoln, and Putnam County courts - $10,000.00

 

  1. West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Inc. – This grant will provide funding for the West Virginia Individual Development Account program for low income citizens with a special emphasis on domestic violence victims in Kanawha County - $15,000.00

 

  1. West Virginia Division of Natural Resources - This project allows hunters to donate their legally harvested deer to the Mountaineer Food Bank for distribution to the hungry in the TGKVF region of West Virginia - $15,000.00

 

  1. West Virginia Health Right – This grant will help the adult dental clinic and the onsite pharmacy provide needed oral health services and life-saving medications of over 18,500 uninsured residents- $20,000.00

 

  1. West Virginia University Medical Corporation (WVU Eye Institute) - Funding will assist with The Children’s Vision Rehabilitation Project which provides children with incurable vision loss the ability to access the visual environment independently. - $13,000.00

 

  1. Women’s Health Center – This grant will assist the organization in the purchase of a needed gynecological piece of equipment to provide gynecological care to more than 6,000 low income and uninsured women each year - $10,000.00

 

  1. YWCA – This grant will assist the Child Enrichment Center with utility and insurance support,  the Resolve Family Abuse Program with staff support for Boone County, and the Sojourner's Shelter with staff support and client funds for medication and other needed items- $35,000.00

 

28 individual grants were awarded for a total of - $365,697.00
