Recreation & Land Use Grants

 

 

 

  1. Boone County Schools – Funding will assist with the purchase of age appropriate picnic tables, tricycles and other equipment to foster small and large motor skills in pre-school age children. - $2,100.00

 

  1. Capital City Striders, Inc. – This funding will provide scholarships for participants, help with equipment purchases such as bungees and shuts; assist with membership fees, and assist with rent for the UC field. - $6,500.00

 

  1. Charleston West Side Main Street, Inc. –  Funding  will aid in the revitalization of the West Side through supporting the purchase of banners, benches, trash cans and greenery to promote community events during FestivALL -  $6,000.00

 

  1. Clay County Board of Education – Funding will be used to update an outdated weight room for Clay County High School. - $20,000.00 

 

  1. Friends of the Kanawha Trestle Trail – Funding will assist with appraisal, deed review and video production in order to create a multi-use, non-motorized recreational tail for Charleston and Kanawha County up Elk River through Coonskin Park. - $8,000.00

 

  1. Glenville State College Foundation – This funding will assist with travel, training, other expenses and fees associated with the planting of trees and the upgrade of a handicap accessible trail at Yeager Airport. - $6,000.00

 

  1. Kanawha Gateway Heritage Area, Inc.  – This grant will support the work of two AmeriCorps VISTA members who will assist with the training of youth volunteers through various community events and tasks, including recreation, festivals and beautification projects. - $5,000.00

 

  1. Putnam County Parks & Recreation Commission – Funding will help PCPRC in developing a master plan for a nature park on 25 acres of donated properly, the Norman and Esther Walter Memorial Nature Park, which is to be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. - $5,000.00

 

  1. Town of Cedar Grove – Funding will provide matching dollars to help create a picnic area, green space and interpretive visitors pull off along the Midland Trail/US Route 60 beside Virginia’s Chapel in Cedar Grove. - $8,000.00

 

 

 

9 grants awarded for a total of $66,600.00
