2009 Online Grant Application and Instructions Each
year the Foundation strives to continuously improve our services to the
community. Part of that
process includes updating our grant application process. We wish to inform each of you that the Foundation has a
revised grant application for 2009. This
application can be downloaded in a print version only from our website at www.tgkvf.org. To locate the document, go to the Foundation’s homepage,
click on the grants tab, and then click on common grant application.
If you have any questions please call the Foundation at (304) 346-3620
and ask for Sheri Ryder or Cherrie Sizemore. To assist applicants in understanding the grant application process and requirements, Foundation staff will be holding three general sessions to educate the community about the 2009 grant application process. The three informational meetings will be held at the Foundation Office located at 900 Lee Street, East, 16th Floor. Please register to attend one of these informational sessions. Staff will make every effort to answer your individual questions at these meetings or they will set up a time to meet with you individually. While you may attend any of the sessions, it would be best if you attended the session that correlates with the field of interest cycle that you are thinking of applying within.
The Foundation awards unrestricted and field of
interest grants in the following broad program areas: arts, economic
development, education, health, human services, land use and public
recreation. The
Foundation has elected to focus on Community Development in its grant
making. Efforts will be made
to align the grant making with this focus area. Community Development is a general category for three types of
work—improving the quality of life, promoting economic development, and
reducing poverty. All three contribute to a nurturing environment for families
and individuals and a good place to do business. The Foundation looks to fund specific projects and to partner with other organizations in funding these efforts. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Program Officer prior to submission of all applications, especially in cases of new, large, or particularly complex projects.
PLEASE READ………..IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE 2009 Grant Program The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation wants to strike a balance between helping nonprofits through these difficult financial times and maintaining our grant making to groups that work in community development through the issue areas of education, arts & culture, health, human services, land use and public recreation by temporarily shifting our emphasis not our strategy.
We will prioritize grant requests that ensure that basic human needs (food, shelter, health care, utility payments, job training, etc) are met to the fullest extent possible. In additional to our pre-existing grant restrictions we will not fund:
· Capital expenses · Extended grant commitments · Grants that request non-core program expenditures, such as strategic planning, workshops, etc. · Grants will be reviewed carefully for duplication of services, therefore positive collaboration and partnerships are encouraged
The Foundation DOES NOT make grants to exclusively support the following: § National or statewide proposals that do not focus on our 6-county service area (Boone, Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, and Putnam counties); § General operating budgets for established organizations; § Annual campaigns or membership drives; § Travel expenses or school uniform purchase; § Ongoing support for the same project; § Staff costs only; § Consultants, consultant fees, conferences or workshop speakers; § Individuals, student aid or fellowships; § Endowments; § Religious activities of religious organizations; § Each Organization can apply for only one grant per year.
