A free Diversity Workshop with Dr. Roosevelt Thomas hosted by the East End Community Development Project was held on Saturday, March 6th, 2004 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Baptist Temple. Dr Thomas is a nationally -recognized author and diversity management consultant.

Youth Philanthropy Project

The Students In Free Enterprise Youth Philanthropy Initiative (SIFE-YPI) was created in 2006 in partnership with Triana Energy, University of Charleston SIFE and The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation to enable young people to participate in philanthropy.  Click here to view the Press Release or the Grant Application or the Fact Sheet.

 

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation ranked 70

in the 2005 Survey  of the top Community Foundations in the US

 

Each year community foundations are surveyed regarding their asset size, grants paid and gifts received. The latest survey results for the fiscal year 2005 have just been published. The Foundation ranked 70 in market value of assets and 72 in the grants paid category among the 641 community foundations in the United States.

   

 New Funds

In its December  13, 2006 meeting the Trustees approved the creation of the following new charitable funds. They are:  

 

TGKVF, Inc.:

The Beatrice Bell Memorial Fund, a discretionary fund for general charitable purposes of the Foundation

Glenn (Fritz) Howard and Lois Wingett Howard Memorial Fund, a field of interest fund in the area of land use and recreation

The Lois and Lawrence C. Kaufmann, Jr. Fund, a field of interest fund in the area of education

Doris Chandler Waddill Memorial Fund, a donor-designated fund to support the Alzheimer's Association

 

Greenbrier Valley Affiliate:

 Donald Newell, Sr. Memorial Fund, a donor-designated fund to support the WVSOM Foundation, Inc.

Gay and Becky Shinaberry Scholarship Fund, a scholarship fund to provide scholarships for young women from Pocahontas County High School whose parents are not college graduates
